From the archives of the Institut Pasteur, this page is an excerpt of the list of donations received in 1887 during the "Souscription publique" (public subscription or fundraising campaign) to finance the main building.

In addition to gifts from Alsace-Lorraine and Germany, gifts from "the Americas" are listed at the bottom and include several New Yorkdonors including Gordon Bennett, Director of the New York Herald whose connection to the institute began with the story of the four American boys sent to Pasteur for treatment in 1885.
