Unveiling of the Edward Bennett and Leon Hermant Art Deco memorial statue of Louis Pasteur in Chicago

Edward H. Bennett and Leon Hermant's Art Deco Memorial in Chicago

Now in Convalescent Park in front of Cook County Hospital, Chicago, this 28-foot Art Deco memorial statue was created by architect Edward H. Bennett and sculptor Leon Hermant. It was originally located in Grant Park and moved in 1946 to its current location. The inscription on the Chicago monument reads “erected to Louis Pasteur, Servant to Humanity, by the People of Chicago.”  At the dedication ceremony in 1928, William Lane, who as a child was sent to Paris to be treated by Louis Pasteur with three other children from Newark, New Jersey, laid a wreath at the foot of the statue's pedestal.
