Zuccaire Travel Grants - "Viruses of Microbes"

Apply to attend the First International Congress on

Viruses of Microbes at the Institut Pasteur in Paris

June 21-25, 2010

What could be more “Pasteurian” than the viruses of microbes?!

The Pasteur Foundation works primarily to raise funds for the Institut Pasteur and to assist in fostering exchanges between the Institut Pasteur and the U.S. scientific community.

Thanks to the generous support of the board of the Paul W. Zuccaire Foundation, we are delighted to offer travel awards to young American scientists who wish to attend the June 21-25, 2010 congress at the Institut Pasteur entitled “Viruses of Microbes.”  Inspired to support cross-cultural exchanges by its namesake, Paul W. Zuccaire, the Zuccaire Foundation has been a faithful supporter of the Pasteur Foundation particularly with regard to advancing the careers of young U.S. scientists by way of opportunities at the Institut Pasteur.

Requirements

The Pasteur Foundation’s Zuccaire Travel Grants are open to young U.S. citizens who have already registered and will present a poster or make an oral presentation at the First International Congress on Viruses of Microbes in June 2010 in Paris, and who are either pursuing a Ph.D. in biological science or who are young postdoctoral researchers. Please note: (1) Meeting registration fees are not due until after decisions have been made in case your attendance is contingent upon this travel funding. Please register and submit your abstract as soon as possible and before March 31st. (2) Applicants must be 35 years or younger, be enrolled in a doctoral program or have recently obtained their Ph.D., and be based at an institution located in the U.S.

To apply for these travel grants of up to $2,000 grants,

please submit the following by April 1, 2010 (this deadline has been extended from March 1st to accommodate interest in the program):

  • a grant registration form [pdf download]

  • CV (1 page maximum)

  • one letter of recommendation from your current Principal Investigator (may be sent directly by PI)

  • a scientific summary of your work (1 page maximum) which includes how the congress is integral to your field of interest.

  • the abstract of the poster or talk you will present at the congress

Travel Award applications will be reviewed by a scientific committee and grant recipients will be notified mid-April 2010. Funding will cover registration cost and defray travel expenses up to a total of $2,000.  Grants will be paid to recipients in U.S. dollars upon their return from the meeting and submission of travel and meeting receipts to the Pasteur Foundation.

Travel Award application deadline is April 1, 2010 (extended from March 1st). Travel award recipients will be announced in mid-April 2010. To be considered for the Pasteur Zuccaire Travel Awards, please submit the above documents in one email addressed to both of the following email addresses: PasteurUS@aol.com and virusmicrobes2010@pasteur.fr.

For questions strictly about these travel grants, please write to: PasteurUS@aol.com.

Please note: applications for travel funds are handled separately from meeting registration.  Please make sure to complete both processes fully.
