Biography: Elizabeth R. Fondaras Elizabeth Fondaras is the Founding Chairman of the Pasteur Foundation American Advisory Board. She served as Chairman of the group for over fifteen years. She has spent the better part of five decades working to strengthen relations between France and the United States with her personal initiative and by lending support to organizations with the same goal. She has made particular efforts in the realm of fostering the careers of young people. In the early fifties, she establishing the Elizabeth R. Miller Traveling Scholarship which brought talented young French surgeons to work in American Hospitals. In 1956, she initiated the Elizabeth R. Weicker Scholarship for St. Paul’s School in Concord, New Hampshire. Awarded to young French students, the Weicker Scholarship has been granted to some 100 students at St. Paul's many of whom have gone on to become prominent professionals in France. In addition to her remarkable service to the Pasteur Foundation, she has served on a spectrum of nonprofit boards including the French-American Foundation, the Foreign Policy Association, the Children’s Storefront School in Harlem, and the Institute of International Education. Among her many distinctions, she was the 2006 recipient of the Pasteur Foundation Award. In light of her lifelong work on behalf of France, in 2009, President François Sarkozy named her Commandeur in the French Legion of Honor.
