Harriett Moore's Bust of Louis Pasteur in San Francisco

Harriett Moore's Pasteur Bust at the Kaiser Permanente Hospital, French Campus

In honor of the original unveiling of this bust created by sculptor Harriett Moore on March 25, 1984, Mayor Dianne Feinstein declared it to be “Louis Pasteur Day.” The bust may be found on the grounds of the Kaiser Permanente Hospital, French Campus. The bust was given by Constantine Raises and represents the man “internationally known as the ‘Knight of the Laboratory,’ Louis Pasteur, [who] lives on as a benefactor to humanity. His contributions to the fields of infectious diseases and discovery of pasteurization continue to save countless lives....The portrait bust captures Pasteur’s character – rugged, craggy, bold and intensely possessed by his purpose.”
